Eligibility requirements and restrictions for PREPARE Institute Developmental Grants
PREPARE offers Developmental Grants to investigators who meet the criteria below. If you have any questions about these criteria, please contact us.
Credentials
To be eligible for our Developmental Grants, you must possess a doctoral-level degree and have an academic appointment at or above the Assistant Professor level or equivalent at UC San Diego or one of our partner institutions.
Applicant priorities
PREPARE intends Developmental Grants to be awarded to advance early stage investigators who are committed to a career in pandemic preparedness research. Accordingly, our grants are awarded primarily on merit to early stageinvestigators who have not yet received R01-level NIH funding. If you are not familiar with the NIH funding process, please view a quick guide to NIH grants (Powerpoint 2007).
Restrictions
Developmental Grants cannot support clinical trials, nor can they support studies involving new drugs, new treatments, new devices, or off-label use of a licensed drug.
Developmental Grants cannot fund travel to scientific meetings. The only exception is that unfunded early stage investigators may include travel to a scientific meeting to present the results of their Developmental Grants.
Applicants may submit only one Developmental Grant application per cycle.
Overspending on the award is not allowed and must be repaid.
Postdoctoral fellows may not apply for Developmental Grants, and these grants may not be used to provide salaries for postdoctoral fellows.
